Officer Training
It is a golden opportunity for all young Sri Lankans to be an officer and a gentleman/lady of high calibre, capable and innovative in a challenging seafaring career, in any of the following branches in the Sri Lanka Navy.
Should have passed General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level).
Executive Logistics Patrolman Legal Engineering Medical Shipwright Information Technology Electrical & Electronics Dental Provost Music Presently officer training is mainly conducted at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) Trincomalee and short / specialised officer training is conducted at the Sri Lanka Naval Ship Gemunu, Welisara. This training includes theoretical aspects covered at the training institute followed by a practical exposure onboard the Sri Lanka Navy fleet at sea.

Direct Entry Stream for Regular Force
Should have a Degree from a recognized University or Higher National Diploma (minimum one year duration) with two years of work experience.

Volunteer Stream
Should have a Degree from a recognized University or Higher National Diploma (minimum one year duration) with two years working experience.

Service Entry
Ratings with special aptitudes, qualifications & outstanding leadership abilities are selected, trained & granted a commission.

Eligibility for Direct Entry/Volunteer Officers
Citizen of Sri Lanka Unmarried males Married/Unmarried (Males/Females) Height: Male 5'6", Female 5'3" Distance 6/6 each eye Chest Male 32 inches (minimum) Chest 32 inches (minimum) Vision Colour STD II Weight: Male-115lbs Female-90lbs Officers on completion of their basic training, are offered the advance courses in following fields, mostly abroad.
Technological Naval combat related Specialization Staff Colleges Administration National Defence Colleges Selections for limited berths in basic training abroad (International Midshipmen course at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, UK or the Sub Lieutenant Technical (Executive) course in India or Bangladesh etc) will be based on performance during training.

Engine Room Artificer Radio Electrical Artificer Electrical Artificer Shipwright Artificer Civil Engineering Artificer Auto-Mobile Artificer Sailors' basic training ( approximately six months ) is conducted at Advanced Naval Training Centre (Nipuna), Naval Recruit Training Centre (Shiksha), SLNS Gemunu (Welisara), SLNS Ruhuna (Tangalle) and SLNS Vijaya (Kalpitiya) . This basic training will be followed by "on-the-job" training onboard fleet units and at shore establishments.

Non-Artificer Training
Basic training, of about 6 months will be followed by "on-the-job" training (both ashore & afloat) and advanced training (sub specialization) of 6 to 12 months, either locally or abroad.

Artificer Training
On completion of 3 to 6 months of basic training, Artificer training which is provided either locally or abroad,which will confer a Diploma in Naval Engineering in the specified fields to those who successfully complete this training.

Citizen of Sri Lanka Weight 105 lbs Unmarried Vision STD II distance 6/6 each eye Age between 18-22 years Chest 32 inches Height minimum 5' 3" -
